Quincy Hall of Fame to honor former students

Quincy High School principal Sue Segura is brainstorming again. A whirlwind of ideas flies around the room. The most recent project to emerge is the Hall of Fame.

The high school has a long and rich history, said Segura. "It's so important that we honor our tradition."

Four vie for three PDH board seats, no contested races for PUSD

The Plumas District Hospital Measure B election Aug. 31 looms large, overshadowing the November elections in many ways. But there are some key races that warrant a closer look.

The main one is the race for PDH's board, at press time the only contested election. Three hospital board seats are open. Bill Elliott, John Kimmel and Fred Thon currently hold those. Elliott is not running but Kimmel and Thon are.

City becomes Graeagle Plumas Alliance member

At its latest meeting July 28, Portola's city council voted to become a member of the Graeagle Plumas Alliance at the $2,000 level. All council members voted for the membership except William Weaver, who had been in favor of a lower level, lower cost ($600) membership. The expenditure required a budget amendment as well.

Recreation district examines revenue, new programming

The Almanor Recreation and Park District board of directors held its monthly meeting Wednesday, July 28, at the Almanor Basin Community Resource Center.

The board focused on three primary topics of district revenue; the potential of collaborating with the Chester-Lake Almanor Chamber of Commerce to provide a Winterfest activity; and approval of a policy regarding equipment use on the Truman Collins Sports Complex multipurpose field.

Free Entrance to Lassen Volcanic National Park August 14 and 15

Lassen Volcanic National Park will waive entrance fees on August 14 and 15 along with other national parks throughout the country. “We hope many local community members will have a chance to visit their nearby national park during this time,” stated Superintendent Darlene M. Koontz. The Park Service wants people to see that national parks are places for everyone to have fun, reconnect with nature and history, and build a sense of ownership and stewardship for these areas and the environment. This weekend will be in addition to the fee-free days scheduled for National Public Lands Day, September 26, and Veterans Day, November 11.
