Text messages sent between the cell phones of Joanna McElrath (Beckett) and Robin Glen James the evening of Saturday, Jan. 1, tell how the two worked together to allegedly murder Susanville police officer Robert McElrath that night.

Taylorsville Grange reorganizes

Word from the state grange is that the Taylorsville Community Grange is once again alive and well, and will have a meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 1 to elect new officers and make plans for the coming year.  The meeting will start at 6 p.m., and everyone is invited.

The Taylorsville Grange has served the community since 1928.

Preliminary report on Almanor plane crash issued

Investigators still have not identified cause of fatal accident

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) released a preliminary report Jan. 20 on the Jan. 6 plane crash at Rogers Field that killed two Chester residents, Ronald and Janet Gilmore.

The report does not establish a cause for the accident. It could be several months before the agency issues a final report.

Supervisors vote 3-2 to not renew waste contracts

In a split vote at a meeting Tuesday, Jan. 18, the Plumas County Board of Supervisors decided to give its waste management collection companies notice of the county’s intent to not renew the current contracts.

This was the first 3-to-2 vote at a board meeting in months and the action was preceded by a lively discussion.

Plumas Arts Gallery kicks off 30th anniversary

The Plumas Arts Gallery is delighted to present the work of husband-and-wife artists Harry Reeves and Linda Blum in an opening reception Friday night, Feb. 4. Kicking off Plumas Arts’ 30th anniversary, the gallery at 372 Main St. will be filled with the couple’s keenly observed paintings of nature and wildlife.

As part of Quincy’s Art Walk the same night, starting at 5 p.m. the Plumas Arts Gallery will host a reception for the pair with drinks and delicious treats. Main Street Artists Gallery and Eagle’s Nest Frame Shop and Gallery will also host opening receptions from 5 to 8 p.m. Many downtown merchants will be open late for the festivities. County has some good news amid the economic gloom

Plumas County Administrative Officer Jack Ingstad gave some good news to the Board of Supervisors while delivering his annual mid-year budget report on the General Fund at a meeting Tuesday, Dec. 18.

Ingstad told the supervisors that sales tax receipts only fell by $2,000 compared to the numbers at the same time last year, while transient occupancy tax (TOT) revenues actually rose by $56,000.
