Where’s the proof? Committee still waits on financial information

School closure shouldn’t even be on the table, according to Indian Valley businessman David Schramel, who insists district officials need to look at other ways to “meet this budget thing.”

Schramel, like committee members, wonders where the proof is and thinks the threat to close schools is a ploy.

Closure committee discuses layoffs, surveys, triggers

“The community has been amazing and really stepped up to the plate,” said Chester area 7-11 Committee Chairwoman Traci Holt, and while the wintry weather might have kept some people from attending the Feb. 29 meeting, it did not keep those in attendance from discussing recent developments and issues.

During the public comment portion of the meeting, the layoff notices to full-time staff members, recently approved by the Plumas Unified School District (PUSD) board of trustees, dominated the discussion.

PG&E proposes targeted rate reduction to promote economic development

Pacific Gas and Electric Co. (PG&E) recently announced that it has asked state regulators for the right to offer a competitive electric rate to attract large employers to California and convince other large employers already in the state to maintain or expand their operations rather than leave.

Future of Beckwourth-Genesee Road subject of public meeting

On Wednesday, Feb. 22, a townhall meeting was held at the Portola library to discuss an environmental impact study that had been done on a proposed project affecting a 9-1/2-mile stretch of California Forest Highway 177, the Beckwourth-Genesee Road, and to get public feedback.

This project was initially requested by Plumas County in 2004.
