Investigation finds deputy shooting justified

Plumas County Sheriffs Deputy Tom Froggatt’s actions on June 19 probably saved several lives.

That was the finding of a seven-week investigation into a violent disturbance at the Evergreen Trailer Park in Quincy. The confrontation ended with Froggatt fatally shooting 36-year-old Quincy resident Dennis Jason Majewski.

Fire crews respond to a new wildland fire

2:50 p.m. update

The Forest Service has turned around all resources that have not yet arrived at the fire. They are not calling the fire contained yet, but it is apparently knocked down and they are comfortable they can control it and hold it with the resources on the scene. This will be the last update unless conditions change.

2:40 p.m. update

The Forest Service incident comander has cancelled the air tanker suggesting they are getting a handle on this fire which has been named the Willow Fire.

Grand Jury blasts county supervisors

“Oblivious” and “dysfunctional.” Those were two of the words the Plumas County Grand Jury used to criticize the county’s Board of Supervisors in its 2011-12 report.

The report, which is included in its entirety in this issue of Feather Publishing newspapers, blamed the supervisors for having a “lack of vision” in tackling the county’s budget problems.
