The Eastside Cowboys and Local Agency Formation Commission Chairman Robert Meacher brought the battle home at the commission’s Nov. 9 meeting. Citizen-at-large Larry Douglas began the mudslinging by commenting the Portola three (city representatives Bill Kennedy and John Larrieu, and county member Terry Swofford) were in fact “vigilantes,” not cowboys.

Joshua Sebold

Reyes Carrillo-Garcia, convicted of stabbing to death Jenny Carrigan of Chester and Steven Furtado of Willows in May 2008, will be in court for sentencing Monday, Nov. 23, at 1:30 p.m.

Carrillo-Garcia was found guilty of two counts of murder, an enhancement for the use of a knife and two special circumstances for “lying in wait” and “multiple murder” when his trial ended in October.

His expected sentence is life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The death penalty was ruled out before his trial began after the Furtado family voiced its preference that Carrillo-Garcia should spend the rest of his life in prison.

View for thought

Taking in the views from the Quincy Q above the high school, senior students in Terrie Redkey's business and finance class reflect and write about what it's been like growing up in this unique community and the goals they hope to achieve during their senior year and beyond.

Rob Wade who facilitated the summer training Teaching From the Land, which was attended by many high school teachers from throughout the school district, inspired this lesson, using the outdoors as a classroom. Joining the seniors was new QHS principal Dr. Sue Segura who, for the first time, viewed her new community and school from the Quincy Q.

Quincy resident Skip Alexander will file a Notification of Intent to Circulate a Petition to the Plumas County Elections Office Nov. 16, and when he does, he’ll set in motion a process that, in effect, will allow the voters a second chance to have their say on the Plumas District Hospital bond issue.
Alexander attended the recent PDH board meeting Nov. 3, along with 20 other community members. At that meeting, Alexander asked board members if they would make a commitment to cap the bond tax at $87.30, which was the estimated “highest tax rate that would be required to be levied to fund these bond issues,” according to the language on the Measure A Tax Rate Statement.
