Carole E. Burck died peacefully in Chico on April 11, 2013. She was born on Feb. 14, 1945, in Albany, Ore., to Mae and Ernest Burck at a time when children born with Downs Syndrome were trucked away in a back room or were placed in an institution. Her parents chose to bring her home, love her, educate her and expect great things of her. Carole was never one to disappoint.
She enrolled in the same one-room country school her father had attended, Clover Ridge Elementary, and from there attended Albany Union High School, graduating in 1964.
In 1970 she left Oregon for Southern California to help her older sister who was expecting a baby. What was going to be a month’s visit turned into 20 years. During that time she moved with her sister’s family to Greenville.
