Skilled play and intense effort defined the league championship match between the Quincy and Portola boys’ soccer teams last Saturday, making for an impressive game between two very good teams.
The top-seeded Portola Tigers hosted the match and led 1-0 at halftime, but the Quincy Trojans scored three goals in the second half for a 3-1 victory.
Is that a skunk I smell?
Sometimes a lake or stream can be red hot, but the fisherman ice cold.
That happened to me recently.
I went to my favorite fishing hole: Lake Almanor.
Almanor can be a tough lake to fish. But it has lots of fish. Many kinds of fish. And many big fish.
Our days of golfing at Whitehawk Ranch are numbered now as the course officially closes Sunday, Oct. 24. Only a few ladies continue to come out and tee it up late this fall but, those who do are rewarded with beautiful days out on the course.
Our final competition this season at Whitehawk was our Ace of Aces Finale played Sept. 28. Marcia Zeigler continued to dominate our 2010 season, coming up the low gross winner by shooting a round of 80.
Marcia was also our club champion again this year and awarded as our most improved player at our awards luncheon on Oct. 5.
Christy Randall finished her season strong with a round of 67 to come in as our Ace of Aces low net winner. Congratulations to Marcia and Christy.

The boys' and girls' soccer teams have wrapped up their regular season schedules in the Feather River League and begin playoffs today, Oct. 20.

Portola earned the top seed after finishing with the best record, one game ahead of second-place Quincy.
