75 YEARS AGO..........1938

    The Plumas County voting precinct in Paxton was abolished this week when the Plumas County Board of Supervisors voted to consolidate it with the Keddie precinct. The population of Paxton has declined to just a few persons since the copper mine at Engelmine was closed.

75 YEARS AGO..........1938

    The 1937-38 winter season fell short of the precipitation record of last year by 5.56 inches in the Plumas National Forest — 67.66 inches compared with 73.22 inches.

    Summit School at Vinton was burglarized sometime within the last ten days. The burglar gained access by prying off the lock on the door. Tools, a first aid kit and school materials were stolen.

    Advertisement : 18th annual Chester Rodeo with 3000 covered grandstand seats $1.00. Biggest Little Show in the West Sunday. Big Rodeo dance Saturday night.

    Oiling of the new Vinton-Loyalton Road has begun. The road was built under a federal road program for $60,000 with Plumas County providing almost half of the cost from the county general road tax.

75 YEARS AGO.............1938

    Plumas County Clerk John Donnenwirth will assist voters who cannot leave their jobs during courthouse office hours to register by taking care of them at his Quincy home from six o'clock p.m. until eight o'clock p.m. on weeknights.

    Plumas County currently has 3935 registered voters to date: 2551 Democrats, 1248 Republicans, 11 Socialists, 3 Townsend, 118 declined to state and 4 miscellaneous.

75 YEARS AGO..........1938

    The Hotel Quincy Grill, closed since January for extensive remodeling, will reopen this evening. An entirely new kitchen has been installed in the brick house formerly used for storage. This was connected by a new room to the main hotel building. A new cold room in the basement will be kept at temperatures of zero degrees allowing the restaurant to serve oysters in the middle of summer.
