80 YEARS AGO.......1930
Plumas County Sheriff L. A. Braden and a posse of deputies from Quincy drove in to Chester Saturday night and staged a raid upon a Chinese gambling den and dance hall, arresting five operators and dealers and confiscated furnishings.

Mike D. Ayoob of Greenville this week began construction of a modern two story and basement hotel on what is known as the hotel block at the corner of Main and Crescent Streets. The first floor will include a lobby, coffee shop, pool hall and barber shop. Construction cost: $40,000.

Advertisement: Tenth annual Chester Rodeo to be held Sunday, July 27. Bronc riding, bull riding, steer roping, trick riding. The Pendleton Round-up Band specially engaged for this show, the only original cowboy band. Admission to rodeo: $1.25.

Plumas County Clerk William F. Werner will keep his office at the Quincy courthouse open Saturday night from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. for the accommodation of those desiring to register to vote in the upcoming August election.

    California's record of progress since its admission to the Union 80 years ago will be strikingly portrayed at the California State Fair which opens this week. The sate fair's theme "80 Years of Progress" was selected to commemorate the milestone.

    Fourth of July events within Plumas County:
In Portola: a concert, dancing and a carnival with many concessions, baseball games. In Greenville: dancing all afternoon, 10 cents a dance, a bathing beauty contest, swimming racing and diving stunts and a grand ball in the big, cool pavilion, $1.00 admission.
