The Mt. Hough Ranger District proposes to approve a Plan of Operations for exploratory mining using hand tools and metal detectors. The Plan of Operations would authorize use of an existing gate and shed on National Forest System lands. The project is located 12 miles east of Greenville. The legal location is T27N, R11E, Sections 27 and 34. A draft Decision Memo detailing the proposal is available for review at the Mt. Hough Ranger District. Abandoned Mine Closures
The Forest Service, Plumas National Forest, Mt. Hough Ranger District, is preparing Decision Memos for closure of six separate abandoned mine adits on the Mt. Hough Ranger District. Mine closures will provide for public safety in these areas. Two adits are located at the Shenandoah Mine, legal location T 25N, R7E NE 1/4 of Section 28. The Shenandoah Mine is located within the Bucks Lake Wilderness. The third mine adit is located at the Old Jura Mine, legal location T25N, R7E, NE 1/4 of Section 19. This mine is approximately .5 miles from Belden. The fourth mine adit is located at Mosquito Creek, T26N, R7E, Section 33. The 5th and 6th adits are located along NFS Road 27N26 in T26N, R7E, Section 24. Draft Decision Memos detailing the proposals are available for review at the Mt. Hough Ranger District. Notice of Decision, Big Hill Project, Plumas National Forest, Beckwourth Ranger District, Plumas County, CA
As the responsible official, Forest Supervisor Earl Ford signed a Decision Notice and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) on June 26, 2012 approving the Big Hill Project. The selected Alternative (Alternative 1) would treat approximately 5,230 acres with a combination of mechanical thinning (including group selection), grapple pile, hand thin and underburn northwest of Graeagle. This project will obliterate 5.6 miles of road and reconstruct 14 miles. The project has been designed to reduce fuel loading, improve forest health and fire resiliency, provide for old forest emphasis ecosystems and associated wildlife species, contribute to the economic health and stability of local rural communities and improve watershed health.
The Big Hill project is located in Sec 11-15, 22-26,36 T23N R10E; Sec 1-11 T22N R11E; Sec 1-24, 27-34, 36 T23N R11E; Sec 26, 34-36 T24N R11E; Sec 6-7, 18-19, 30-32 T23N R12E; Sec 5-9 T22N R12E; Mount Diablo Meridian.

The 30-day objection period ended on June 15, 2012. No objections were received. Implementation may begin immediately.

The Plumas National Forest partners propose to conduct hazardous fuels reduction projects on private lands funded by the Steven Authority and Title II monies near and adjacent to the Feather River Ranger District. (Approximately 72 acres). Partner-Butte County Fire Safe Council.Proposed activities for the project is mastication of brush, conifers and hardwoods <8" DBH.Forbestown Phase 5 Project (Stevens Authority): located in T19N, R6E, S19. (Approximately 158 acres). Partner-Butte County Fire Safe Council. Proposed activities for the Phase 5 is to tractor push and crush brush, conifier and hardwoods <8" DBH. Opportunity to Comment on the Twain Fuels Reduction and Forest Restoration Project
The Mount Hough Ranger District of the Plumas National Forest is seeking comments on the draft decision for the Twain Fuels Reduction and Forest Restoration Project. Forested stands would be thinned from below on 122 acres near the town of Twain and the Halsted campground. Conifer thinning would concentrate on understory trees less than 12 inches in diameter leaving the largest and most fire resilient trees. The proposed project is located approximately 16 miles west of Quincy, California on hwy 70.
