75 YEARS AGO..........1937

With the arrival of snow Tuesday, the extreme cold, dry spell of the last two weeks has been broken. Snow measuring seven to 12 inches fell throughout areas of Plumas County overnight.

A special train brought 350 snow sports enthusiasts to Portola from Sacramento Valley on Sunday.

 

50 YEARS AGO........1962

During the past 12 months, in the year 1961, there were 246 babies born and only 122 deaths. In the year prior, 1960, there were 247 births and 134 deaths.

Last weeks storm which resulted in the interruption of traffic and electrical power on most parts of Plumas County dumped an average of five inches of snow. Once the weather cleared, temperatures dropped, ranging from 12 degrees below zero in Quincy and eight degrees below zero in Sierra Valley.

 

25 YEARS AGO..........1987

The Plumas County Board of Supervisors this week froze all special salary changes for county employees until an outside review of the salary grid has been completed. The freeze will not effect normal step increases earned by county workers.

An influenza epidemic that swept through Portola High School last week leaving 54 per cent of the student body home sick seems to be subsiding. With a total of 371 students enrolled in Portola High School, 200 were out sick on Friday.

 

10 YEARS AGO........2002

In an effort to receive state grant money for the project, the Plumas County Board of Supervisors approved the Quincy skate park this week.

The Plumas County Board of Supervisors appointed former Plumas County supervisor Phillip Bresciani as interim manager of the Plumas County Fair, at $3,900 per month, the same salary as former manager Mike Clements.
