Feather River College Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) members have partnered with Plumas Unified School District, Plumas Bank and the county’s chambers of commerce to bring the Extreme Entrepreneurship Tour to Feather River College Thursday, Sept. 29, 9:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Amy Schulz, SIFE adviser and director for Workforce Innovation Partnership – Youth Entrepreneurship at FRC, said Thursday’s event is about building entrepreneurial pathways for high school and college students, age 14 – 27.

Freshmen and sophomores from Plumas County’s public high schools, as well as from Westwood, Loyalton and Susanville’s Lassen High School will attend the event designed to foster entrepreneurship.

WIP is developing high school- and college-level curricula to help students be more entrepreneurial in their approach to the workforce.

Not a traditional business program, WIP will help students recognize opportunities to create their own jobs and businesses.

In addition, WIP will offer cross-curricular certificates in such subject areas as outdoor recreation leadership, culinary arts, agriculture and allied health.

Schulz said, “Our economy is hurting; if it’s going to stay healthy, we have to grow our own.”

FRC’s entrepreneurship program will tie into the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) and lead to transfer to California State University, Fresno.

The Extreme tour, sponsored by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Campaign for Free Enterprise, has included 200 events in 35 states since its inception in 2006.

FRC SIFE will also host a tour pre-event networking reception Sept. 28, 6:30 – 9 p.m. at Alley Cat Cafe. This is an exclusive opportunity for community members to meet the speakers: E.J. Carrion, panel moderator; James Simpson, CEO of GoldFireStudios; Tim Rhode, executive director of 1 Life Fully Lived; and Paige Connell, owner of Midnite Munchies.

Tickets, $20, are limited to 30 people. For more information, contact Schulz at 283-0202, ext. 358.
