Whitehawk Ranch Ladies Golf Club

Tuesday, Aug. 16, the Whitehawk Ranch Ladies Golf Club had its monthly “Ace of Aces” event. Patty McNamara captured the low gross score with a 79 and the net winner was Aggie Keese with a net 66. They each qualify to play in an end-of-season tournament. Congratulations to both ladies!


Mt. Huff Golf Course

Wednesday Morning Scramble

Our super amazing weather continues and conditions remain perfect for the Wednesday Morning Scramble at Mt. Huff Golf Course. It just keeps getting better and better.

A large attendance provided three placing teams.

In first place was the team of Bob Clark, Barbara Quam and Don McDonnell, who came in at 11 under.

Coming in at second place were team members Mike Ingle, Don Sheffield, Todd Posch and Loren Lindner, who scored 9 under.

Rounding out for third place finish at 8 under was the team of Ralph Cote, Dick Grace and Leo Sorosinski.

Closest to the pin was won by Don Sheffield while Leo Sorosinski won the chip-in contest.


Bailey Creek

Women’s Club

Aug. 17: It was a beautiful day on the golf course for our monthly Bailey Creek Guest Day. The game was Alternate Shot. The first place winners were Karen Ashe and Micki Miller (guest) and second place winners were Wynnetta Regli and Lise Peachee (guest).

Lunch was served after play, consisting of Caesar salad, a mixed tray of wonderful sandwiches and delicious homemade chips.

Other guests were Pat O’Hanneson from LACC and Gail Garvey, Helen Roberts and Lise Peachee from Walnut Creek. It was a fun day for all who played.


Plumas Pines Women’s Golf Club

Our Playday on Tuesday, Aug. 16, was our “Magic Putt” format.

First flight: Janet Holladay, first low gross (86); Mary Peters, first low net (68).

Second flight: Pat Nichols, first low gross (109); Mary Blaylock, second low net (68).

We had five chip-ins: Cathy Cianciolo, Mary Peters, Pat Nichols and Annie Meyers — with two chip ins!


LACC Women’s Golf Club

Fifteen players competed for the Club Championship in three rounds of golf held Aug. 9, 12 and 16. Prizes were awarded to two flights for low gross scores and the low net score.

In the first flight for low gross scores, Trudy Leete came in first place, Darlene Donaldson took second and Kathy Roseler placed third. The low net winner was Trudy Leete.

In the second flight for low gross scores, Kathy Fuller came in first place, Karen Schmidt was second and Martha Vlahos placed third. The low net winner was Joan Johnson.

Carol Parish had a chip-in on hole No. 1 and Kathy Fuller had a chip-in on hole No. 10 during the Club Championship play Friday, Aug. 12.

Trudy Leete emerged from the competition as our club champion for 2011. Congratulations, Trudy! And congratulations to all our winners of this special event.

Following the field of Club Championship players Aug. 16, the ladies played the game of Criss Cross. The golfers chose their best score for nine holes comparing the first nine holes with the second nine holes and then subtracting half their course handicap for the game score.

In the first flight, Mary Ann Broderick came in first place with a score of 31. Cindy Wittenberg placed second with 32.5. Madeline Furman was third with a score of 33.

In the second flight, Madeleine Protsman came in first place with a score of 30. Meg Eaton was second with 32.5. Toddy Cutler and Linda Yaap tied for third place, both with scores of 33.5.

Chip-ins were made by Dana Seandel on hole No. 9, Doris Kaiser on hole No. 10 and Meg Eaton on hole No. 16. Nice going, ladies!


Mt. Huff Golf Course

Thursday Night Scramble

Our Thursday night “Nine and Dine” Scramble was again a huge success. We had nine teams. After a chip-off between Mike Taddei and Jerry Quam, the team of Jerry and Barbara Quam and Margie Joseph came in first with 7 under. The team of Mike Taddei, Dave Peters, Joe Pogue and Bob McIlroy came in second. At 5 under the team of Jim Bryant, Ron Ridge, Michael Jackson and Darel Joseph came in third.

Mike Taddei blasted the longest drive and Jerry Quam placed it closest to the pin.

The evenings are beautiful and the greens are in great shape; we will continue the scrambles as long as weather and daylight permits.

The dinners have been delicious, and all are welcome, though you don’t have to eat to play.

We will be having a Frills and Thrills couples day tournament Sunday, Aug. 28. All are again welcome, and we promise you a fun time.

Lake Almanor West

Women’s Golf Club

On Aug. 18, Lake Almanor West’s golf course was transformed into a tropical paradise for our women’s annual golf tournament.

Our theme was “Just Another Day in Paradise.” It truly was a fantastic day. We started out with a lovely continental breakfast, then great golf; our format was “cha, cha, cha.”

We then were treated to a great lunch on the patio with wonderful decorations done by Karen Demoe, followed by oodles of prizes that were donated by our members and local merchants.

Then came the time we were all waiting for, the awards.

Longest drive hcp 27 and below: Madeline Furman.

Longest drive hcp 28 – 33: Joyce Ayres.

Longest drive hcp 33 and above: Karen Hillman.

Closest to pin No. 6: first place, Joan Bolles, 7 feet, 10 inches; second place, Karen Fleury, 31 feet.

Closest to pin No. 12: first place, Doris Prince, 18 feet, 4 inches; second place, Sandy Feeney, 22 feet, 5 inches.

Closest to pin No. 15: first place, Charlene Ferguson, 22 feet, 4.5 inches; second place, Sally Weller, 22 feet, 8 inches.

Fun game on hole No. 4: closest to squiggly line, Marcia Spooner, 3 inches.

Fun game on hole No. 7: closest to tree, Kathi Shennan.

Accuracy on hole No. 9: first place, Jessie King, 14-1/2 inches; second place, Pat Fricke, 17 inches.
