|Michael Harvel lead Eagles in scoring and rebounds|
2/9/2011 - The Feather River College men’s basketball team posted an exciting 97-92 victory over Lassen in front of a home crowd Feb. 2, avenging a five-point loss to Lassen three weeks earlier.
During last week’s rematch in Quincy, FRC fell behind by 18 points early in the game, when Lassen made five straight 3-pointers.
Rather than losing hope, the Golden Eagles remained undeterred and slowly chipped away, crumbling Lassen’s lead to six points by halftime, 52-46.
Through the second half, Lassen made the Golden Eagles work even harder to gain any ground, but FRC finally caught Lassen, taking a one-point lead with 58 seconds left in the game.
With the intensity of a very close contest, two lead changes added to the drama, until FRC locked a five-point win as the final buzzer sounded.
Michael Harvey, a sophomore captain for Feather River, led the Golden Eagles with 27 points, 16 rebounds and two blocks.
FRC freshman Marcus Bettis shot 8-for-13 from the floor, including 2-for-2 from 3-point range, to total 21 points. Bettis also grabbed seven rebounds and led with three steals.
Sophomore Mario Parker earned a double-double for Feather River, with 14 points and 12 rebounds. He made 6-of-8 from the floor.
From the floor, the Golden Eagles shot with 42 percent accuracy in the first half and 56 percent accuracy in the second half. From the free-throw line, FRC finished at 55 percent overall.
The win improves Feather River’s record to 3-3 in the Golden Valley Conference and 8-12 overall.
FRC has another home game tonight, Feb. 9, against Shasta College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
