Notice of Proposed Action

Abandoned Mine Closure

The District Ranger of the Beckwourth Ranger District is seeking public input on closing two abandoned mines on the Beckwourth Ranger District. Both mine sites are abandoned and closure will provide for public safety. Location of these abandoned mines are:

PJ #4: T22N, R13E, NE 1/4 of Section 32

Squaw Lake: T21N, R12E, NW 1/4 of Section 21

The PJ #4 mine shaft would be closed by securing a false bottom into the opening and then sealing the opening with an application of polyurethane foam (PUF). The PUF would be mixed with dirt and rocks to mimic the natural surroundings. The Squaw Lake mine adit would be fitted with a false backing and sealed with an application of polyurethane foam and covered with dirt and rocks to mimic the natural surroundings. Bat gates would be installed to provide continuing bat habitat at sites where needed.

This comment period is intended to provide those interested or affected by this proposal an opportunity to make their concerns known prior to a decision being made by the Responsible Official. This decision is not subject to appeal.

The District Ranger of the Mt. Hough Ranger District is seeking public input on closing four abandoned mine adits on three mine sites on the Mt. Hough Ranger District. Location of these abandoned mines are:

Pineleaf: T24N, R8E, NE 1/4 of Section 2

Dark Ravine: T26N, R8E, SW 1/4 of Section 24

Yellow Creek: T25N, R6E, SE 1/4 of Section 13

Mine closure will provide for public safety in these areas. Mine adits would be sealed with an application of polyurethane foam and covered with dirt and rocks to mimic the natural surroundings. Bat gates would be installed to provide continuing bat habitat at sites where needed. Culverts will be installed at sites where water is present to maintain current flow out of the adits and support existing riparian vegetation.

This comment period is intended to provide those interested or affected by this proposal an opportunity to make their concerns known prior to a decision being made by the Responsible Official. This decision is not subject to appeal.

National Forest Timber Sale

Plumas National Forest

The Big Creek Timber Sale is located within the NE corner of section 8, T23 N, R 9 E. The Forest Service will receive sealed bids in public at Quincy, CA at 10:00 AM local time on 09/27/2010 for an estimated volume of 11.8 CCF of White/Red Fir sawtimber marked or otherwise designated for cutting. The Forest Service reserves the right to reject any and all bids. Interested parties may obtain a prospectus from the office listed below. A prospectus, bid form, and complete information concerning the timber, the conditions of the sale, and submission of bids is available to the public from the Mt. Hough Ranger District.
