Mt. Huff

Thursday Scramble

The Aug. 26 Thursday Day Scramble came in like a lion. The wind was blustery but 32 players showed up for eight full teams. The wind was somewhat of a deterrant but three teams tied for first. After a three way chip off the team of Chuck Thrall, Mike Ingle, Dick Grace and Mark Ross came in first, Lynn and Gary McClellan, Steve Ross and Bob Clark came in second, and Richard Mauldon, Paris Moore, Paul Eagan and Mike Ruggeri came in third.

The champion of the night was Leaf "quite possibly the best man ever" who won closest to the pin and with a great back wind closest to the hole.

We had a few new faces and many of our faithfuls and we are happy to see them all.

The Big 6 has been moved to Oct. 3. It is a great tournament and fun is had by all.

LACC Women’s Golf Results

There was piracy on the high seas Aug. 24, as a crew of 54 players readied themselves for a swash-buckling adventure of ravaging the course and eventually walking the gang plank participating in the annual Captain & Crew event.

The game was a four-man team scramble to the green then, when putting, every mate covered one eye with an eye patch. Lots of laughter and cheers roared across the course as putts were made… or not! A treasure chest full of winners emerged.

In the first flight, there was a 2-way tie for first place with a score of 79 between the team of Judy Honsaker, Lee Hunter, Barbara Leonard, and Carol Parish and the team of Diane Bice, Kathy Fuller, Janet Hancock and Sue Sutton.

In the second flight, again there was a 2-way tie for third place with a score of 81 between the team of Karen Griffin, Jane Hilliard, Joyanne Soderholm, and Jan Vortmann; and the team of Madeline Furman, Claudine Gurney, Peggy Lentz, and Jude Morse.

In the third flight, there was a 3-way tie for fifth place, with a score of 82 among the team of Sandy Feeney, Marie Phillips, and Cindy Wittenberg; the team of Joan D’Angelo, Sue Hudson, Barbara Marquardt, and Martha Vlahos; and the team of Toddy Cutler, Pat Drake, Nancy Foote, and Jan Reese.

After pillaging the course, the ladies gathered in the park for a relaxing English garden “Tee Fore Two” luncheon. Kudos went out to Judie Crain, Peggy Lentz, Judy Spooner and Sandy Feeney for planning the lovely afternoon lunch and awards ceremony at Rec. Area #1.

Pirate putters Toddy Cutler, Darlene Donaldson, Doris Kaiser, Trudy Leete, Marcia Spooner and Jan Vortmann took part in the putting contest after the day’s round, and Toddy Cutter was declared this year’s Putting Champion.

Joan Johnson was proclaimed the Most Improved Golfer for the 2010 season.

Match Play results were announced with Pat Drake and Kathy Roseler coming in first place, Joan Johnson and Jan Vortmann taking second, and Judy Honsaker and Dana Seandel coming in third place. In the consolation Match Play round, Jessie King and Carol Parish came in first place, Nancy Foote and Jackie Longsworth came in second, and Jude Morse and Cathy Rideout came in third place.

Ringer card results revealed three flights of winners. In the first flight, Kathy Chuchel and Darlene Donaldson tied for first place, and Madeline Furman and Jan Vortmann tied for third. In the second flight, Kathy Fuller and Kathy Roseler tied for first place, and Genny Davis, Pat Drake, and Sandy Feeney all tied for third place. In the third flight, Angie Gamble and Carolyn Soper tied for first place, and Cathy Rideout took second place. The Low Gross Award went to Madeline Furman with a score of 77.

Mary Craig was honored as the 2010 LACC Women’s Golf Club Champion.

Then down to business as the following new officers were elected launching the 2011 season: Nancy Foote (president), Jessie King (vice president), Kathy Roseler (secretary), Jan Vortmann (treasurer), Trudy Leete, Kathy Fuller, and Genny Davis (tournament chairs), and Darlene Donaldson (handicap/membership chair).

Congratulations to all of this season’s winners and welcome to our new 2011 Board!

Whitehawk Ranch Ladies Golf Club

Wonderful weather... fun golf on a great course... good friends & good laughs... another sensational invitational was had at Whitehawk Ranch! This years' Rhinestone Cowgirl Classic brought in 64 ladies to play a 'Cha-Cha-Cha-Bling' format for 18 holes. The golf shop selected on which holes 1, 2, 3 or all 4 balls would count toward the teams' total score. We had some close scores and a lot of great play out there this year. Players were once again visited by their traveling gallery... our very own cowboy, head pro Van Batchelder, riding his horse, Oly & followed by his border collie, Boon.

First place gross went to a team headed by new WHR member Brenda Knott and her guests Rita Byorick, Mindy Zamzow and Pam Hogan with a low score of 172. Second place gross was won by WHR members Patty McNamara and Chris Hyatt and their guests, Mary Craig & Sue Gardner with a combined 180. Third place gross went to WHR members Marcia Zeigler and Lynn Smith and their partners, Jan Lawrence and Jacquie McMaster with a score of 182.

It was a tight race in the net category, but not for first place. WHR member Aggie Keese and her guests, Marie Moretti, Gloria Martinez and Pat Grew ran away with that prize with a low score of 132. Second place net was won by a team led by WHR member Jenine Fraser and her partners, Donna Sabatasso, Susan Dolbee and Faith Butler with a combined score of 140. There was a tie for third place which was decided by a tiebreaker cardoff and winning that award were WHR members Christy Randall andDella Miller and their guests, Janet Reihsen and Susie Wiese with a net score of 146.

Other awards given included a closest to the pin prize, won by WHR member Toni Dick on hole #3 at 13' 7" and the guest winner was Carol Miller on hole #16 at 5' 9". There was also a most accurate drive challenge out on hole #14. Due to some confusion, the awards were given to guest Jeannine McDonald and member Chris Hyatt. But it would appear that member Marcia Zeigler squeezed her ball in closer to the line, so both Chris & Marcia will be awarded for a drive well hit!

The awards luncheon held at The Lodge at Whitehawk was once again scrumptious and the staff there and our own cowboy husband helpers did a fabulous job. The unexpected lunch entertainment added a new twist to the event. The "Rapsta Cowgirl" sisters performed a spontaneous rap, they were dressed in "gangstah" style cowgirl attire - lots of bling hanging off long chains, multiple body tattoos & piercings... Chris Hyatt, aka Rapsta Ludachris, Patty McNamara, aka Rapsta Patsta, Mary Craig, aka Rapsta Mother Mary & Sue Gardner, aka Rapsta SueBrew brought the house down!

Many thanks must go out to all the individuals who worked so hard to make the WHR 2010 Rhinestone Cowgirl Classic such a success! Denise Stein chaired this year’s event, doing an amazing job again, and she couldn't have done it without her cowboy helper husband, Bob, and cast of many others who lent her a helping hand. YeeHa Gang — way to go!
