Lake Almanor West Golf

Seventeen gals turned out July 15, for Best 9, our choice of front or back, using half-handicap.

First flight winners were Jo Knudson in second place and Julie Azevedo in first place.

Sally Weller was second in the second flight and Karen DeMoe came in first place.

Third flight winners were Judy Cooper, second place and Shirley Friedrichs in first place.

There were five birdies: one by Julie Azevedo, two by Sally Weller and two by Shirley Friedrichs. That must be a record for birdies made in one day. Congratulations, gals!

There were also four chip-ins. One by Julie Azevedo, one by Sally Weller and two by Shirley Friedrichs. Great playing!

On another note, we would like to invite all women to play in our annual open tournament, Mardi Gras Madness, Thursday, Aug. 12.

Four-person teams will compete with the Cha Cha Cha format which is one best ball on Hole #1, two best balls on Hole #2 and 3 best balls on Hole #3 and then repeats throughout the course.

In addition, there will be games of skill such as accuracy, longest drive (by handicap) and closest to the pin plus, just for fun, some games of luck on a number of holes.

The entry fee is $75 and includes green fees, cart, breakfast, lunch and prizes. Entries are due by Aug. 1. You may sign up as a single, twosome, threesome or foursome. Checks should be made payable to LAWWGC and mailed to Sharon Auge, 209 Goose Bay View Trail, Chester, CA 96020. If you have questions, you may contact Sharon at smaandlja@yahoo.com or 259-3497. Hope to see you at the tournament!

Whitehawk Ranch Ladies

The Whitehawk Ranch ladies played a two best balls of four game on Tuesday. The first place team players were Chris Hyatt, Judy Miller and Marcia Zeigler with a combined net score of 115. The second place team consisted of Diane Ackeret, Pamela Burke and Laurie McKenzie with a combined net score of 121.

The ladies are done with their first round of match play. The winners of those matches were Patty McNamara, Lynn Smith, Denise Stein and Cynthia Faulk.

Unfortunately, several players have had to pull out of match play, giving three players passes to advance to round number three... Patty McNamara, Lynn Smith and Christy Randall will move on to their third matches automatically.

Next week will be the LACC Women's Invitational. Genny Davis has planned a terrific day with some wonderful prizes to be raffled off. Good luck to all the ladies who will be participating in the invitational. Our next regular ladies day will be July 27, and we will be playing Cha Cha Cha.

Mt. Huff

Wednesday morning scramble

The weather is warming up, but mornings are still great for golf! The July 14 Wednesday morning scramble at Mt. Huff Golf Course gave us the first place winning team of John Hackett, Randy Jennings and Bob McElman.

In second place were Phil Rodgers, Ralph Cote, Dick Grace and Al Brubaker.

Chip-in was won by Bob McElman and there was no winner for the Closest to the Pin Competition.

Mt. Huff

Thursday scramble

After a very blustery July 1 scramble where Margie "the Bomb" Joseph won longest drive, and Lynn McClellan won the longest drive on July 8, Milo Beauchman reclaimed the longest drive for the men during our very hot July 15 scramble. Closest to the pin on July 1 was Jerry Quam and, to not be outdone, Barbara Quam won it on the 8, and Darel Joseph won on the 15.

During our July 15 scramble (did I mention the heat?) there were seven teams and the teams of Dick Grace, Mike Ingle, Loren Lindner and Ralph Cote tied with Richard Mauldin, Paul Eagan, Wes Morgan and Joe Pogue, and after a final finish chip off between Wes Morgan and Dick Grace, Dick Grace's team came in first.

Everyone seems to have a wonderful time no matter the weather and we would love to have you join us on Thursdays, Check in is 4:30 p.m., tee off at 5 p.m.

Also on July 24 we will be having a full handicap two man scramble at 9 a.m. with check in at 8:30 p.m. Cost is $35. We would love to have you.

The course is in great shape, and if you haven't ever played here, give us a try, and if it's been a while, we would love for you to come back.

LACC Men's Golf

July 14, the LACC Men's Golf Association played the Card Game. Four-man teams were formed with each player representing either the spade, heart, diamond, or club. Every hole was also assigned one of the four card suits. The team score was the sum of the player with the featured card plus the lowest net score.

First place honors went to the team of Russ Brown, Jim Drake, Dennis Porter and Al Shuler with a score of 123.

Second place was won by Rob Hicks, Rich Moore, Larry Prentke, and Bob Roseler at 124.

John De Jong, Barry Donaldson, Henry Spencer and a blind draw came in third with a 128.

Fourth place was held by Jerry Browning, Rick Fields, Chuck Johnson, and Jim Maurer at 129. And Matt Chuchel, Nolan Gamble, Nate Ryan, and Daryl Schmidt with a 132 came in fifth.

Congratulations to all.

Plumas Pines Women's Golf

Tuesday, July 13, was the culmination round of the Handicap Tournament at Plumas Pines. After an intense three-day event, Nancy Bartlett came away the winner with the lowest net score combining all three days. Congratulations, Nancy!

Coming in close second was Kathy Knight. Lorraine Cornish, Jan Talbott, and Jennifer Zumbro placed 3rd, 4th, and 5th places respectively.

All of the competing ladies should be commended for participating in this event during a very busy (and hot) time of the year!

Those not competing in the handicap tournament played a game of low gross/low net and the results of the entire field for that day were as follows: In the first flight, Renee Walker won Low Gross, Nancy Bartlett won firs Low Net, and Scooter Kidwell won second Low Net. In flight two, Mary Stonebraker won Low Gross, Cathy Knight won first Low Net, and Jan Talbott won second Low Net, and in flight three, Jan Pierce won Low Gross, Mary Blaylock won first Low Net, and Jennifer Zumbro won second Low Net.
