Deputy’s appeal fails

Former Plumas County Deputy Jeff Bergstrand’s effort to challenge his termination, which originally occurred in 2008, has come to an unsuccessful end.

When asked whether the grievance process had concluded, Acting Plumas County Counsel Brian Morris indicated, “In the county’s view this matter is closed.”

He explained, “When a public employee is terminated they have certain rights to appeal a termination,” and in this situation “any rights to review or appeal the termination have been exhausted.”

When asked if a public record request could be made for a settlement document in the Bergstrand matter, Morris responded there wasn’t a settlement document or anything like that in this case.

Essentially that means Bergstrand didn’t win his appeal and his separation from county employment remains in effect.
