Posch's plea hearing continued

Joshua Sebold

High Desert State Prison Sergeant Todd Posch, who was scheduled for a possible plea Tuesday, April 20, has had his case continued one week to Tuesday, April 27.

Plumas County District Attorney Jeff Cunan reported after a Tuesday, March 30, pretrial conference the only offer made to the defendant was to plea as charged to two counts of filing a false police report.

Each charge carries a maximum possible jail sentence of six months for a total exposure of one year.

Pleading could also leave Posch open to restitution charges.

The Plumas County Sheriff’s Office has alleged that Posch fabricated two incidents where he reported being assaulted, which resulted in more than $100,000 of state and local funds being expended in investigative and security efforts.

Plumas County Sheriff Greg Hagwood has made it clear that he expects full restitution from the defendant for expenses incurred by his department.

Cunan encouraged “those who feel that they were affected by these incidents” to contact the DA’s office.
