Sierra Pacific Industries announced Dec. 23 that it would re-start its biomass electrical power plant in Loyalton.
The plant closed Sep. 12, due to poor economic conditions, resulting in the layoff of 19 employees.
“SPI has resolved contractual issues with its power purchaser, allowing the plant to begin operations in early January,” said plant manager Jim Turner. “We will be bringing more fuel to the plant and will make an effort to call employees back to work who were terminated,” added Turner.
State Senator Dave Cox, whose district includes Loyalton and the surrounding communities, said, “The re-opening of Sierra Pacific Industries’ Loyalton power plant is great news for local residents and the community.
“Employees and their families could not have asked for happier news this Christmas.
“SPI’s ownership and management team deserve credit for their leadership and their efforts to get Californians back to work.”
