Two new officers sworn in as deputies
Plumas County’s two newest deputies were sworn in during a ceremony at the courthouse in Quincy on Wednesday, May 7.
Consuelo Cisneros and Tyler Hermann joined the deputy ranks and will begin six months of training at the Butte College Police Academy on July 7.
Both Cisneros and Hermann were promoted after years of service as corrections officers at the Plumas County Jail. Cisneros, training manager at the jail, has been a corrections officer for seven years. Hermann has been an officer for two years.
The two new deputies, who are both Plumas County residents, represent the latest increase to the staff. Sheriff Greg Hagwood said four new deputies have been added to his department in the past year.
“These are measurable steps to bringing the staffing level to where it needs to be,” Hagwood said. “And they are going to be outstanding officers.”
In a slight break in tradition, the sheriff didn’t pin the badges on the new deputies.
Corrections Sgt. Brad Belcher performed the ceremonial honor for his close friend Cisneros. Jail Commander Chad Hermann pinned the badge on his son Tyler.
The sheriff wore a broad smile as he observed the ceremony and remarked that the Sheriff’s Office is truly a family.
Following the ceremony, Cisneros and Hermann received handshakes, hugs and pats on the back from the large gathering of family, friends and fellow officers attending the event in the courthouse lobby.
Hagwood said he was especially proud to be able to add two more officers who are from the area. Cisneros lives in Quincy. Hermann lives in Portola.
The sheriff has known both officers for several years. “And it’s exciting to watch them embark on careers to serve the citizens of Plumas County,” he said.
“They have both done an outstanding job as corrections officers,” Hagwood added. “They have demonstrated commitment, ability and leadership. They’ve got very bright futures ahead of them at the sheriff’s office.”
After six months at the academy, the new deputies will undergo a 16-week field training program.
