Both the Quincy and Chester ski teams hit the slopes last Monday in competitive sets of races. Chester, which is in Central Division I, raced at Northstar Ski Resort and won both the boys’ snowboard and boys’ skiing races.
Quincy, part of Central Division II, raced at Alpine Meadows Ski Resort and had one teammate place and all its team members finish. On race day, there was a light covering of new snow that made the skiing conditions ideal.
Chester’s Wesaly Hedrick took first place in the boys’ snowboarding, while Cody Najera came in close behind in fourth place. Dakota Strand placed first in the boys’ skiing category. Jessie Gannon placed 11th in the girls’ snowboarding.
Chester traveled to Heavenly Ski Resort on Feb. 10 for a double giant slalom race. Chester’s last division race is Feb. 17.
Che Rubalcava-Cunan skied best for Quincy, placing third overall. Cody Morrison placed 12th, Daniel Haygood placed 21st, Dayne Lewis 25th and Luke Zemple 30th.
Quincy finished up its division races Feb. 10 at Sugar Bowl Ski Resort. Details will be in next week’s Sports and Recreation section.
