Portola man arrested on drug charges

A Portola man was arrested on drug charges Friday, Jan. 24, after officers found marijuana, hash and cocaine at his residence.

Alejandro Huerta Jr., 25, was charged with cultivation of marijuana, manufacture and possession of a controlled substance (butane honey hash oil) and sale of a controlled substance (cocaine).

He was booked into the Plumas County jail on $500,000 bail.

Officers from the sheriff, California Highway Patrol and Fish and Wildlife served a search warrant at Huerta’s 3810 Grizzly Road residence in Portola about 11 a.m.

During the search, detectives discovered 38 mature marijuana plants that were being cultivated in a room that had been constructed in the garage.

According to Plumas County Sheriff’s Investigations Sgt. Steve Peay, the grow appeared to be somewhat sophisticated. He cited the equipment that was used to grow the plants.

The search also uncovered a commercial butane honey oil lab inside the residence. According to the report, officers found several extraction tubes, numerous empty and full cans of butane, scales, cash, and the finished product.

Detectives also located a sellable quantity of cocaine.
