Diller Teen Tikkun Olam awards, $36,000
Ten awards open nationally to Jewish teens ages 13 – 19 involved in community service. Apply at dillerteenawards.org. Deadline: Jan. 5, 2014.
Profile in Courage Essay Contest, $500 – $5,000
National essay contest on political courage open to grades nine – 12. Apply at jfklibrary.org. Deadline: Jan. 6, 2014.
Burger King Scholars Program, up to $50,000
Open to high school seniors with a minimum GPA of 2.5 who are planning to attend college or vocational/trade school. Apply at http://bit.ly/IM4ntN. Deadline: Jan. 10, 2014.
California Association of Collectors scholarships, $1,500 – $2,500
Statewidescholarships available to high school seniors planning to go to any college or vocational school. Based on 700- to 1,000-word essay about establishing good credit. Applications available from high school counselor. Deadline: Jan. 15, 2014.
Germany abroad scholarships
Full scholarships available for students age 15 – 18 with a minimum GPA of 3.0 for a year abroad at a German high school with a host family. Knowledge of German is not required. See high school counselor for a brochure. Apply at usagermanyscholarship.org. Deadline: Jan. 16, 2014.
Ronald McDonald House Charities scholarships, $1,000 and up
Open to high school seniors with a minimum 2.7 GPA who are planning to attend a two- or four-year college. Involvement in community service required. Go to rmhc.org for more information or apply at aim.applyists.net/RMHC. Deadline: Jan. 21, 2014.
Cleveland Institute of Art 2D3D National Art and Design Competition
National art and design contest for arts, design and integrated media open to high school seniors. Apply at cia.edu/2d/3d. Deadline: Jan. 24, 2014.
Elks Legacy Awards, $4,000
Open to high school seniors. Applicant must be the child, grandchild, step-child, step-grandchild or legal ward of a living Elk. Based on knowledge, charity, community and integrity. Apply online at elks.org/enf/scholars. Deadline: Jan. 31, 2014.
AXA Achievement Community Scholarships, $2,000
Three hundred awards available for high school seniors planning to attend a two-year or four-year college full-time in 2014. Based on outstanding achievement in school, community or work activities. Apply at axa-achievement.com. Deadline: Feb. 1, 2014.
Directing Change Student Video Contest, $500 plus prize for school
Open to California high school students. Video contest to create a 60-second public service announcement about mental illness and suicide prevention. Go to DirectingChange.org for information. Deadline: Feb. 1, 2014.
Playing with Purpose scholarships, up to $14,000
Open to Christian athletes in grades 10 – 12. Must play a varsity sport, have a C or higher average. Apply at playingwithpurpose.org. Deadline: Feb. 1, 2014.
Scholastic Student PSA Contest, $1,000 plus trip to NYC
Open to students in grades six – 12. Create a script or storyboard for a 30-second public service announcement regarding safety in impaired driving situations. Pick up flyer from high school counselor or go to scholastic.com/drive2life to see past videos and apply. Deadline: Feb. 12, 2014.
eQuality scholarships, $6,000
Open to high school seniors or college students who have participated in community service to the lesbian/gay/bisexual/
transgender community. Apply at equalityscholarship.org. Deadline: Feb. 16, 2014.
Pacific Gas and Electric Employee Resource Group scholarships, up to $6,000
At least 100 awards available for high school and college students in Pacific Gas and Electric Co.’s service area. Awards based on excellence in academics, community service and leadership. Caners Foundation scholarships, $500 and up
Open to high school seniors planning to pursue a career in horticulture or agribusiness related to horticulture. Participation in FFA or 4-H is a plus. Applications are available from high school counselor. Deadline: March 15, 2014.
Italian Catholic Federation scholarships, $400 – $1,000
Renewable scholarships open to high school seniors who are Roman Catholic and Italian or have a parent or grandparent who is a member of the Italian Catholic Federation. Minimum GPA 3.2. Apply at icf.org. Deadline: March 15, 2014.
California Wine Grape Growers scholarships, $2,000 – $8,000
Open to high school seniors with a parent who is a vineyard employee. Must be planning to attend a California community college, California state university or University of California school. See high school counselor for application. Deadline: March 31, 2014.
GetDirectTV scholarship, $2,500
Open to high school seniors and college students. Applicants submit a blog entry on how television has influenced their post-graduate career aspirations. Go to getdirecttv.org/tv-scholarship. Deadline: April 1, 2014.
Plumas County Employee Association Scholarship, $300 – $750 per year, renewable
Open to high school seniors whose parent or guardian is a member of the Plumas County Employee Association. Must be planning to attend a two-year college, four-year college, vocational school, tech school or any other accredited program. Pick up application from high school counselor. Deadline: May 2, 2014.
NROTC Scholarship Program, full tuition
The Navy has full tuition scholarships available for high school seniors. Go to nrotc.navy.mil or ask high school counselor about talking with Navy recruiter. Deadline not specified.
