The gym at Greenville High School was abuzz last weekend during the annual John Holland Classic basketball tournament. Eight schools and 16 teams competed for the tournament championship. Whittel’s boys team and Loyalton’s girls team took the tournament.

Greenville’s boys had a pretty good run, with two wins and one loss. The Indians’ girls started strong with a win, but lost their final two games.

Greenville’s boys played Providence on Dec. 5, the first day of the tournament. Their accuracy was spot-on and the Indians won 46-30. The next day Greenville experienced a 53-45 loss to Hayfork. On the final day of the tournament, the Indians overturned Westwood 65-56.

“I thought it went fairly well,” commented Russ Crouch on the boys’ performance. “We improved each game through the tournament, and it was noticeable improvements.”

The girls’ team played Elk Creek on Dec. 5, and succeeded with a 35-18 win. On Dec. 6 the team lost to Hayfork’s varsity team and the following day it lost to Hayfork’s junior-varsity team.

Both Greenville’s boys and girls teams will travel to Westwood this weekend for another tournament.
