These are the stories we are working on for this week's newspaper:
  • Quick fix: A plumbing problem is forcing the Plumas Unified School District to move its headquarters to the former probation building.
  • Lesser charges: A former Chester Public Utility District general manager pleaded guilty to reduced charges last month in connection with unauthorized use of a district credit card at a Reno strip club.

Canoeing under the moon

GOAL-Canoeing

A group of Indian Valley teens relaxes under a full moon reflected off Antelope Lake on Nov. 16 after spending the evening canoeing. The trip was led by Kyle Rodgers and Amy Hafsrud, employees of the Sierra Institute for Community and Environment, and community members Judy Dolphin and Janiska and Scott Nordstrum.

In addition to learning how to canoe, the group of 12 adventurists learned how to make individual tin-foil campfire dinners and desserts. Rodgers said the students “were amazed at how good the food turned out.” He added that the nighttime trip gave teens the opportunity to “see a local spot in a whole new light while learning some campfire cooking skills.”

The trip was the last of the season for the Greenville Outdoor Adventure Learning group. The program is expected to pick up once the new year rolls in. Photo submitted
