Railroad museum announces annual Santa Train event

The Western Pacific Railroad Museum in Portola will once again present its annual Santa Train event Saturday, Dec. 7 and Dec. 14, from 5 to 8 p.m. Visitors will be able to ride a train of cabooses strung with holiday lights, enjoy free hot beverages and homemade cookies, and spend time listening to holiday music in a vintage railroad car. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be available both weekends to hear what kids would like for Christmas.

This year, the museum will be working with EPCAN, the Eastern Plumas Community Assistance Network, to help feed families in Plumas County. “We are looking forward to bringing some holiday cheer not only to our visitors, but to some who might otherwise go hungry during these difficult times,” said Gail McClure, museum director and gift shop coordinator. “We are hoping this new twist will become an annual tradition for families that include Santa Trains as part of their Christmas traditions.”

Cost to enjoy the Santa Train event is $10 per carload or $5 per carload with the donation of at least three nonperishable food items. Suggestions for donation include canned tuna or other canned meats, canned soup, canned fruits and vegetables, peanut butter and jelly, and boxed noodle meals. Tickets will be available at the gate the nights of the event. For more information, call the Western Pacific Railroad Museum at 832-4131.
