Donors wanted for blood drive

Superman, Wonder Woman, the X-Men? Heroes on the big screen get scads of hype, but real heroes abound right here in Plumas County — they’re known as blood donors, says local United Blood Services blood drive coordinator Judy Wright.

United Blood Services is conducting its third blood drive of the year Tuesday, Sept. 17, in Quincy, from noon to 6 p.m., and both regular and new donors are encouraged to make an appointment.

“Heroes show up unexpectedly to save the day,” says Wright. “Blood heroes donate without knowing whose life they might be saving, but they know that giving an hour of their time and a pint of their blood is bound to help someone, and it does.”

Wright encourages donors to make an appointment online at bloodheroes.com (use the sponsor code “Quincy”), or they can call her at 283-4948.

The drive will be held in Quincy at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at the corner of Bucks Lake Road and Bellamy Lane across from Plumas District Hospital.

“Our regular donors obviously contribute to the success of each local drive,” adds Wright, “but first-time donors are always welcome, and the United Blood Services staff are all pros who make it easy for first-timers to be heroes. We hope to see more than just a few new donors this time around.”
