Eastern Plumas Hospital Chief Executive Officer Tom Hayes will return to the hospital for four more years after a unanimous vote by the hospital board of directors at their meeting on July 25.

Hayes has been CEO of the hospital since 2009 and his contract will be extended until July 31, 2017. Hospital board chair Gail McGrath said Hayes is a major asset to the institution.

“We’re lucky to have him. We’ve made a lot of progress through his time here,” she said.

McGrath said the hospital was fortunate to have a CEO with such a stellar reputation. He previously the CEO of Fremont-Rideout Health Group in Yuba City for 30 years.

McGrath said Hayes’ extensive experience contributes greatly toward the hospital’s success — especially with the challenges facing the hospital, like medical cuts.

“He has made huge strides as far as stabilizing our institution,” she said. “We’re lucky to have a man of his experience on our side.”

The hospital will use Hayes’ original contract and add some revisions. His compensation of $142.94 an hour will stay the same, but the board will add three hours to his 30-hour-a week workload.

When he was hired, he entered with insurance that he had from his previous job. Since then, the insurance has expired. Now the hospital will compensate medical plan as well as dental and vision.

“The board has seen so many positive strides from him towards keeping our district healthy, and we would like to continue with that,” McGrath said.
