Chester High School wrestler Rocklin Loranger signed his national letter of intent with Northern State University’s Division II wrestling program April 19.
Division II is an intermediate-level division of competition in the National Collegiate Athletic Association — the school’s current year overall record is 5-11.
Under wrestling coach Pat Timm’s instruction, Loranger will begin his college career in the 2013-14 season in the middle weight class. He currently weighs in at 141 pounds.
Loranger started wrestling at age 9 with local club teams, and has since won three league and three division championships at CHS. He holds titles for four-time freestyle state placer, three-time section placer and section tournament champion. Loranger also helped the CHS wrestling team earn six straight Mountain Valley League titles.
In addition to his victories on the mat, Loranger was named an outstanding leader and player on the football team, is an honor roll student and is involved with community service projects designed to help the hungry.
“Rocklin is a very driven individual and hates to lose,” said Timm. “We feel he can help our team in his first year.”
