THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN SACRAMENTO HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW... WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO 6 PM PST FRIDAY. THE WINTER STORM WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.
After a couple of months of reduced meeting schedules for the holidays, the Portola City Council hunkered down during January meetings to tackle a number of serious issues affecting the cityís future and, at the same time, deal with a series of snowstorms that hobbled city residents.
Snowplowing issues were at the forefront of the Jan. 27 meeting, beginning with public comment from school bus driver Bob Morton who said, ìThe streets in the city were just fabulous, especially the ones leading to the schools.î
Plumas Arts organizes local galleries and downtown Quincy businesses together for Art Walks several times a year. On these wonderful nights a downtown nightlife revolves around gallery openings and artists.
Temperatures Friday, Feb. 5, may be chilly, but smiles will be warm as friends and neighbors gather around the Plumas Arts Gallery, Eagles Nest and Main Street Artists Gallery.
Pearl, a High Sierra Animal Rescue dog turned search and rescue dog, and her handler, Captain Ron Horetski of the Los Angeles County Fire Department, were part of a task force deployed to Haiti Jan. 13.

The bus barn at Plumas Unified School District called to inform Feather Publishing that all PUSD schools are open and running on time for Wednesday, Feb. 3. Buses in the Portola area are running chains because they received two inches of new snow in the area.
