Filing period for special district election closes

The filing period for the Nov. 8 Uniform District Election has closed, and just one district in Plumas County has contested board seats. A lack of candidates leaves six districts needing to make appointments.

Five candidates will vie for three four-year seats on the East Quincy Community Services District board: former general manager Mary Henrici; incumbents Stephen Grant, Ernest R. Eaton Jr. and Greg Margason; and Michael T. Green, a water/wastewater operator.

Firefighters contain 5 acre fire near Chilcoot

Firefighters responded to a small fire in the eastern portion of the Plumas National Forest late Tuesday afternoon. Several helicopters, an air tanker, engines and hand crews held the Adams Incident to 5 acres. Located 6 miles northwest of Chilcoot, CA, the fire posed no threat to any structures and all roads and facilities are open. The cause has not been established.

Reflections on 9/11 wanted

The approaching 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, is a time to reflect, personally and collectively, on how our world has changed. There is no doubt that it has changed. Some of those changes have been mundane — think airport protocols — but some have raised larger questions: How far should we abridge our rights in the name of security?
