College board approves tentative budget

California’s perennial budget drama left Feather River Community College District trustees approving a tentative budget for the 2011-12 fiscal year that incorporates a 15 percent reduction.

The board met Thursday, June 16, and Jim Scoubes, director of Business Services and chief financial officer at Feather River College, outlined the essential elements of general fund reduction for the trustees.

County budget: CEO says don’t panic

Plumas County’s Administrative Officer (CAO) delivered a preliminary balanced budget for the 2011-12 fiscal year to the Board of Supervisors last week.

“We are down to bare bones now. I’ve never seen it this bad,” Supervisor Lori Simpson said. “There is no fluff in this (budget).

The budget, which almost certainly will be adjusted before it is adopted, was submitted as a formality to the board before the July 1 deadline. The draft budget allows the county to continue paying its bills.

Plumas County's locally grown music festival with an emphasis on solar power turns 21 this year. Everyone is invited to come out July 8 & 9 to the Taylorsville Campground and be part of one of the most fun events of the Plumas County summer and enjoy the best value for the dollar at the Solar Cook-Off. Attendees are encouraged to set up camp early and be ready to dance at 7:30 p.m.

RV fire in Chester

At approximately 9:30 a.m. today, units responded from the Chester Fire Protection District to a fifth-wheel trailer fire at 286 Main St. in Chester. While the vehicle appeared to be somewhat in the open, there was a small travel trailer parked in the space immediately to the left of the fifth-wheel. Both vehicles are located within 30 feet of Main Street traffic. It is unknown if the smaller vehicle suffered heat damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The California Highway Patrol and a fire crew from the Almanor Ranger District also responded.Photos by M. Kate West
 

Music festival brings impressive lineup to Quincy

June 19, 2011 – Hundreds of professional musicians and thousands of music connoisseurs will join together in Quincy for the High Sierra Music Festival June 30 – July 3.

Now in its 21st year, HSMF has mastered the art of assembling an eclectic yet compatible variety of bands, vendors and attractions to create four days of intimate festivities.

This year’s lineup looks particularly promising, with talented musicians such as Neko Case, Gillian Welch and Maceo Parker slated to perform for the first time in Quincy.
