Mountain LifeFlight helicopter crashes in Lassen County
11/14/2009
Flight nurse Clint Reger, paramedic Chris Ritz, both of Susanville, and pilot James Bradshaw, of Hawaii, were killed when Mountain LifeFlight crashed in the early morning of Saturday, Nov. 14.
According to Ian Gregor, Federal Aviation Communications Manager, the crew had dropped off a patient at Renown Medical Center and was returning to the Susanville area when the incident occurred.
In a press release from Mountain LifeFlight, the crash occurred approximately five miles north of Hallelujah Junction and 15 miles North of Reno, Nev., at approximately 2:01 a.m.
Circumstances behind the crash are unknown, Gregor said.
News editor Sam Williams, who went to the scene, reported the crash occurred on the plant and mining property of Western Pozzolan Corporation.
Gregor said the aircraft, an Aerospatiale AS350, was destroyed by the crash impact and fire. According to Mio Rhein a flight paramedic at Mountain LifeFlight, the crew did attempt to make a distress call at approximately 2 a.m.
Gregor said information is preliminary and subject to change. FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are on scene investigating the incident.
