Golf Results for the week of 9/5/2014
Mt. Huff Golf
The Wednesday Morning Scramble at Mt. Huff on Aug. 20continues to be a popular event with three teams placing for recognition.
In first place at six under par was team Margie Joseph, Don McConnell and Leo Sorosinski.
Second place ranking at five under par went to team Greg Stevens, Ted Trafton and Darel Joseph.
Coming in at three under par was the third place team of Gary Metzdorf, Ralph Cote and Dick Grace.
Closest to the pin was aced by Dick Grace whilean intense four-way tie happened for the chip-in.
On Thursday, July 21, the Thursday Evening Scramble once again had a big turnout for the competition.
In first place at five under par was the team of Gary McClellan, Lynn McClellan, Todd Johns and David Smuts.
In second place at three under par were team members Austin Linford, Leaf VanPelt, Don Guess andMichael Jackson.
Todd Johns hit the longest drive and Darel Joseph got the shot that was closest to the pin.
There is still plenty of daylight left on Thursday evenings to get in nine holes of competitive play. Come join the fun before the season wanes!
LACC Women’s Golf
Thirty-one women teed off “Just Gross and Putts” under beautiful clear blue skies. The first flight winners were Madeline Furman, Mary Craig and Patte Quinn (a guest). In the second flight there was a three-way tie by Marcia Spooner, Lee Hunter and Joan Johnson. Third flight winners were Claudine Gurney, Nancy Foote and Meg Eaton. Mary Craig was the no. 1 putter with 29 putts, and had a chip-in on no. 4. Madeline Furman scored a birdie on hole no. 15 and Peggy Lentz had a birdie chip-in on hole no. 17.
Women’s Golf Club
It was the last date to qualify for Captain’s Cup finals on Tuesday, Aug. 26, at Plumas Pines Women’s Golf Club. The two qualifiers were Renee Walker, low gross over the field, 92, and Mary Peters, low net over the field, 72.
The results for the remaining players, some of whom had previously qualified for Captain’s Cup, are as follows: First flight: low gross, Jan Anderson with 94; low net, Sharon Russell with 68; low putts, Sharon Russell with 29. Second flight: low gross, Diane Trainor with 107; low net, Lana Janovick with 74; low putts, Lana Janovick with 28.
Chip ins for the day were scored by Connie Raheb (2) and Patty Rohman (1).
Plumas Pines Men’s
On Aug. 7 and Aug. 14 the Plumas Pines Men’s Golf Club held their annual Senior and Super-Senior Club Championships. Seniors were between 50 and 66 years of age and Super-Seniors were 67 years and older (up to 83).
In the Super-Senior Low Gross competition, John Kidwell defended his 2013 title with a wire-to-wire win shooting 80-85--165 to edge out runner-up Larry Walker’s score of 85-84--169.
Larry Walker did not leave empty handed, though, as he took the Super-Senior Low Net title with a score of 69-68--137. Tom Check could not repeat his great opening round and finished a close second with a score of 65-74--139.
In Senior Low Gross competition, Paul Jeglum overcame a two-stroke first round deficit to take the title by shooting 83-74--157. Current Club Champion Kim Roberts placed second with a score of 81-78--159.
The Senior Low Net title for 2014 goes to Frank Motzkus with a steady score of 72-72-144 easily beating the field and runner-up Kim Roberts who shot 77-74--151.
