“The Franke Miller Memorial Junior Girls Golf Program is again being offered at the Lake Almanor Country Club golf course, and we have some great new developments,” Lee Hunter said.

Among the first of the developments is new leadership for the summer season.

“Trudy Leete and Darlene Donaldson are the newly elected co-chairs. Angie Gamble performs as treasurer while I will fill the role of secretary,” Hunter added.

Cindy Wittenberg and Barbara Marquardt are supervising the clinics.

In her second bit of news, Hunter said the Pacific Women’s Golf Association (PWGA) of Sacramento awarded the program a $250 grant to be used for instruction.

“The area director of the association will be coming to one of our clinics this summer to observe our progress and take photos,” she added.

“In the third part of the good news, our LACC Women’s Golf Club voted unanimously last year to donate $250 annually to our program,” Hunter said.

In the process of establishing figures for the PWGA’s application form, Hunter’s research went back seven program years.

“In the past seven years, 190 girls have participated in our clinics. Three girls have returned for four different summers, six girls for three summers and 12 girls for two summers,” she said.

The records also revealed that golf students have come from as far away as Chicago, St. Louis, San Diego and Portland, Ore.

The 2012 summer clinics begin June 20. Jeff Smith, the LACC assistant golf professional, will instruct beginners Wednesdays and intermediates Thursdays. The weekly sessions are held at the golf range from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

“To provide better instruction, we are limiting the ages of the girls to 8 – 18 years of age. We encourage local middle and high school girls to come out and try the game of golf. Mid-irons and putters are available to those who don’t have clubs,” Hunter said.
