75 YEARS AGO.............1937

Fire of undetermined origin destroyed the large barn on the Hosselkus Ranch in Genesee Saturday night. It is thought that one of the wires short circuited and caused an explosion. Uninsured, the barn stored two trucks, a hay rack, mower and two cars owned by Frank and John Hosselkus.

Funeral services were held in Oroville yesterday for Myron L. Openshaw, Plumas rancher and business owner, who was killed when his horse fell backward killing him at his Crescent Mills ranch Sunday. Mr. Openshaw was a partner with his brother Smith Openshaw and C.T. Bedell in the Plumas Meat Market in Quincy.

75 YEARS AGO.......1937

Chief Winnemucca, the last chief of the Paiute Indian tribe along with California Governor Merriman, officially opened the $8,150,000 Feather River Highway to traffic Saturday morning at Grizzly Dome where some 1,000 motorists traveled the highway later that day.

The largest newspaper in the history of Plumas County — 44 pages and 4500 total printed copies of the Feather River Bulletin — the voice of the Feather River Wonderland, produced a Feather River Highway dedication souvenir edition and includes data and history of the completion of the major highway project.

The Diamond Match Company announces the completion and opening of its lumber yard and building supplies store serving Quincy and all of Plumas County. Located on Lawrence Street, Quincy Telephone #4.

Next Tuesday evenings "Calling All Cars" radio program on KNX will be based on a Plumas County crime. An employee, a waiter in the railroad restaurant in Portola, was shot in a hold up robbery three years ago. The assailant was tried by three juries and sentenced to San Quentin.

A special Feather River Wonderland Highway dedication edition was published this week by the Feather River Bulletin depicting and illustrating the fulfillment of the completion of the Feather River Highway and its dedication to be held on August 14 at Grizzly Dome.
