Organizers are inviting everyone to join in the 30th annual Portola Railroad Days community celebration and walk, ride, bike or dance through the Golden Spike Parade Saturday, Aug. 18.

Every entry goes home with a ribbon, and a $100 cash award and trophy will be presented to the overall best entry, which will be judged on creativity, uniqueness and enthusiasm.

PARADE DETAILS

Entry fee: Entry in the parade is free, but a $10 donation would help pay for prizes and event costs.

How to volunteer: Go to the contacts page on the website, call Patricia at 832-4566 or email ptrcrn62@gmail.com.

Information: For other Portola Railroad Days events Aug. 17 – 19, check the website PortolaRailroadDays.com.

Those entering are encouraged to use their imaginations, come out for the morning parade, then stay for the day to enjoy an afternoon and evening of music, special events, classic cars, karaoke and good times.

This year’s Railroad Days is dedicated to the people of Plumas County; it is a time to celebrate friends and neighbors, and the natural beauty of the area. The 30th annual community parade is a keystone event.

Parade categories:

Floats — think Plumas County, think railroad, think fun! Dress up a car, trailer or truck and show your creative side with a hometown float.

Motorized vehicles — cars, motorcycles, trucks.

Non-motorized vehicles — bikes, trikes, wagons — ride it, pull it or push it for fun.

Public service — fire trucks, ambulances, emergency vehicles.

Horses — fancy, cowboys, buggies.

Music — The high school doesn’t have a marching band, but talented musicians can play from the back of a truck

Don’t have a float, car, bike or horse? Organize a group and bring a banner or flags, and maybe some music, and march for the fun of being in a parade.
