Breaking News: Storm buffets Peninsula blaze

  At approximately 9:20 a.m. Friday, Nov. 20, firefighters from the Peninsula and Hamilton Branch fire protection districts were dispatched to a structure fire at 814 Peninsula Dr., inside the Lake Almanor Country Club gates.

  As the blaze grew in intensity, engines and personnel from both Chester and the Almanor West fire protection districts also responded.

Early winter storm wreaks havoc on Plumas County

Strong winds and heavy, often wet snow are causing problems across Plumas County.

PFPD Incident Commander reports PG&E crews are responding to trees and power lines down in Hamilton Branch area, 

Numerous vehicle accidents have been reported including one involving two trucks and a big rig that has Highway 147 completely blocked one mile east of Canyon Dam.

H1N1 Flu Vaccination Clinic

 Plumas District Hospital will hold the first of two H1N1 (swine) flu vaccination clinics on Tuesday, November 24, announced PDH Pharmacist Dr. Rick Foster.  The clinic will take place from 10 am – 2 pm in the Quincy Family Medical Building on Bucks Lake Road next to the hospital.  An administration fee of $15, payable by cash or check, is due at the time of the clinic.

Prescription drug ODs outnumber alcohol-related ones in Plumas County

    If you asked a group of your average Plumas residents what the largest cause of intoxication-related deaths in the county has been this year, excluding suicide, most people would probably guess it was DUI crashes involving alcohol.
    If you gave them a hint and said it actually involved drugs they might guess that meth-related incidents would be the answer because methamphetamine is considered by many to be the largest hard-drug problem in the county and country.

Judge decides pivotal Framework forestry case

    Following up on a tentative ruling he made at the beginning of October, a federal judge has determined, after years of litigation, which forest management rules should be in play on national forests in the Sierra Nevada.
    Not only did he deny injunction requests from environmental groups and the state of California to stop certain timber projects, but he also ordered projects in process or already evaluated and approved by the Forest Service to proceed. The decision affects approximately 75 projects throughout the mountain range.
