Audit reveals few problems with county accounting

  Plumas County passed its annual audit and any hiccups that were uncovered have already been stifled.

  Norm Newell, representing the accounting firm of Smith & Newell, presented the fiscal year 2012 audit to the Board of Supervisors on April 2.

 

Board to B of A: Keep it open

  The Plumas County Board of Supervisors is sending a letter to Bank of America asking that the institution reconsider its decision to completely close its Portola branch.

  Board Chairman Terry Swofford said he continues to receive comments from concerned residents who have relied on the bank for years.

  

Plans under way for May music festival in Belden

  The Plumas Board of Supervisors voted to approve a permit for the Emissions Festival to be held May 17 – 19 in Belden — with some stipulations.

  There is a 1,250-person limit (including talent and support staff) and festival organizers must ensure that there is adequate sanitation, parking and other services for the three-day outdoor music event.

 Last week Republican Congressman Doug LaMalfa showed District 1 voters that no town was too small and no setting too informal to meet his constituents when he had lunch with a handful of community members in Graeagle.

  

City stands with Eastern Plumas Health Care

  The Portola City Council and Eastern Plumas Heath Care set up a united front against the impending MediCal cuts that are coming to the hospital.

  At the City Council meeting March 27, hospital CEO Tom Hayes updated the council on the fight against Assembly Bill 97, a bill that authorizes a 25 percent cut to MediCal reimbursements and demands retroactive payments from 2011 that the hospital will have to start paying back.
