Fatal plane crash at Chester Airport

On Thursday January 6, 2011 at approximately 1849 hours, the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office received several 911 calls reporting a possible airplane in distress near or at the Chester Airport in Chester, California.

A Beech V Tail Bonanza crashed while attempting to land at Rogers Field in Chester.

The aircraft involved in this incident was a Beech V Tail Bonanza  and is owned by Ronald Gilmore of Chester, California.Ronald Gilmore, 76 years of age has been positively identified as one of the victims in the crash and the second victim has been tentatively identified as his wife Janet Gilmore.

 

Two arrested in alleged murder of police officer

Joanna McElrath (Beckett), 36, and Robin Glen James, 46, of Susanville, were arrested on charges of murder and conspiracy in the death of Susanville Police OfficerRobert McElrath, 37.

They were booked into the Lassen County Jail on no bail.

McElrath’s body was found in the mid-morning of Sunday, Jan. 2, near the railroad trestle at Devil’s Corral.

  

Court affirms Dyer Mt. environmental process

Lassen County Superior Court Judge Donald Sokol denied a request for a writ of mandate from three environmental groups seeking to block the development of the four-season resort at Dyer Mountain near Westwood.

Sokol issued his ruling supporting the county’s environmental reviews of the project Thursday, Dec. 30.

  

Services set for Jedidiah Lusk

The Lusk family has announced services for their son Jedidiah, 10, who passed away Monday, Jan. 3, after a 10-month battle with brain cancer.

The memorial service is scheduled for this Sunday, Jan. 9, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, on Bucks Lake Road in Quincy.

Republican Ted Gains has won the special election to fill the state senate seat left vacant by the death of Dave Cox.  As it turns out, the 65 to 35 margin in Plumas County was close to the district wide margin of 63 to 37 margin in favor of Gains district wide.
