Annual snow survey results released

  Snow survey teams from the Lassen National Forest recently collected annual snow data information, which is now available to the public. These surveys are conducted to determine the water content in the accumulated snowfall. The information is collected for the state of California and is used primarily for stream flow forecasting.

 

Supervisors would go to jail rather than return federal funding

  Plumas County supervisors say they would rather go to jail than return any of the Secure Rural Schools funding that has already been received.

  “What happens if we don’t send the money back?” Supervisor Sherrie Thrall asked during the board’s April 2 meeting. “What happens if we say ‘kiss off’?”

  

Fires, spills and road closures can’t keep Caribou Crossroads down

  Every year anglers salivate as streams and rivers open their banks to legal trout fishing. The folks at Caribou Crossroads are ready to celebrate the trout opener, held annually on the last Saturday in April, this year the 27th.

  Pam and Mike Hanson, owners of Caribou Crossroads, are holding their seventh annual Big Fish Contest beginning at 7 a.m. Saturday, April 27. Registration must be completed before the contest kicks off.

  The combination campground and café is located at the junction of Highway 70 and Caribou Road, about 30 miles west of Quincy. The campground borders the beautiful North Fork Feather River.

  

Audit reveals few problems with county accounting

  Plumas County passed its annual audit and any hiccups that were uncovered have already been stifled.

  Norm Newell, representing the accounting firm of Smith & Newell, presented the fiscal year 2012 audit to the Board of Supervisors on April 2.

  

Board to B of A: Keep it open

  The Plumas County Board of Supervisors is sending a letter to Bank of America asking that the institution reconsider its decision to completely close its Portola branch.

  Board Chairman Terry Swofford said he continues to receive comments from concerned residents who have relied on the bank for years.
