U.S. Forest Service issues legacy large airtanker contracts

  U.S. Forest Service Chief Tom Tidwell announced last Wednesday that the U.S. Forest Service has awarded legacy large airtanker exclusive-use contracts to two companies to provide a total of eight large airtankers to support wildland fire suppression through the 2013 fire season.

 

City of Portola writes to Bank of America

  The small-town tenacity commonly found in the city of Portola is raining down upon the Bank of America as locals continue to advocate for their closing bank branch.

  At the City Council meeting Wednesday, March 27, the council adopted a resolution to send letters to the corporate offices at Bank of America to oppose the closure of the Portola branch.

  Failure to have an updated general plan leaves the county vulnerable to lawsuits.

 Last week Republican Congressman Doug LaMalfa showed District 1 voters that no town was too small and no setting too informal to meet his constituents when he had lunch with a handful of community members in Graeagle.

 

City stands with Eastern Plumas Health Care

  The Portola City Council and Eastern Plumas Heath Care set up a united front against the impending MediCal cuts that are coming to the hospital.

  At the City Council meeting March 27, hospital CEO Tom Hayes updated the council on the fight against Assembly Bill 97, a bill that authorizes a 25 percent cut to MediCal reimbursements and demands retroactive payments from 2011 that the hospital will have to start paying back.
