Quincy restaurateur arrested on sex charge

Dan McDonald

A prominent Quincy businessman is in jail on a charge of committing a sex crime against a child.

Patrick Le Coq, owner of Café Le Coq in Quincy, was arrested Tuesday, June 26, at his home and place of business.

Le Coq was charged with committing a lewd and lascivious act against a child under the age of 14.

He is being held on $50,000 bail at the Plumas County Jail.

During a Monday, July 2, court appearance in Quincy, Superior Court Judge Janet Hilde assigned public defender Bill Abramson to represent Le Coq.

The judge also ordered Le Coq not to have any contact with the alleged victim, if he is released on bail.

Le Coq, who has not entered a plea to the charge, waived formal arraignment and is expected to enter a “not guilty” plea, according to Abramson.

Because of the sensitivity of the case, Plumas County District Attorney David Hollister said he did not want to comment at this time.

if this guy is a 'prominent businessman', and owns a restaurant, WHY is he allowed a Public Defender ???

I know that many think that being a business owner makes you wealthy but that is most often far from the truth, especially in this town...So being a "prominent businessman" and business owner does not mean you have money in the bank....nor does it preclude you from having a Public Defender....

As a great fan of Patrick, I do hope it's all untrue!

The restaurant business is a tough one. Athough I don't know anything about Patrick's individual financial situation, I do know that most successful restaurants barely make a profit. The business is often the owner's 'lifestle' or passion, and not always a great 'living' or income.

Prominent by definition has nothing to do with money. Patrick was very well known. I owned two "successful " restaurants in this town and lost money at both of them!

Maybe a little compassion for the child and less about $$ and his using a public defender.

This is a horific tragedy for the Le Coq family! How Patrick pays for his representation seems irrelevant and personal to him. It seems more appropriate for our community to offer the family support and compassion in this most difficult time.

What are you smoking? How about a little compassion for the victim and a little less for the perp?

Fourteen is a tough age and if this is all real living through such a horable thing can be pretty hard, maybe keeping a little lower profile would be best for all involved

Keep in mind that the paper does not publish all the facts AND we are all innocent until proven guilty.

How sad another young life possibly destroyed by yet another self servant deviant. I don't care who his lawyer is or how he pays for it if he is guilty I hope his council sucks!

I'm sorry if my comment was misunderstood. I was referring to the victim and their family. No need to be derogatory.

For the ones who are concerned, the child is not 14 years old....she is 5 years old...he needs to ROT in HELL! Just because you are a business owner and well known in a community, does not make you an honest, respectable, caring human being...you can still be a monster.

I want to express my deep gratitude and admiration for the mother who heard her five(?) year old child. My mother didn't. I was molested from the age of five to eleven. Now 64, I still carry the emotional scars of the abuse and the nightmare of not being believed.

We do not have all the facts so let us please wait to pass judgment. I am sure everyone knows about assuming.

It is truly sad for all involved and I feel for the child. If he is indeed guilty then yes, please throw the book at him. If not, then I hope a misunderstanding is cleared up.

Unless you have all the facts, I am reserving judgment until a jury of his peers reviews all facts and evidence and convicts or releases him. I was not there, I don't know any of you and whether you know them or not, and unless I was on the jury, I will not pass judgement.

If there's a victim, how terrible for the victim! If he's guilty, he's screwed and he deserves his fate! If he's innocent, he's screwed and that make him the victim! Either, the whole thing sucks!

I am so sorry to hear of this. No matter what the situation is or what is the truth, it is heartbreaking for everyone concerned. I also pray for the family and everyone affected. It is a God-sized problem. Aloha.
