The Plumas Unified School District (PUSD) board of directors approved an agreement for assistance in selecting a superintendent July 19.

Education Leadership Services (ELS), based in Oakdale, has been retained to recruit, advertise, complete background checks, conduct surveys and host information forums for community input in regards to the superintendent search.

Executive Director Dr. Wendell Chun made a presentation at the July 19 PUSD special board meeting in Quincy.

Chun has tentatively scheduled informational meetings for individual, group and key stakeholders July 27 and 28.

Plans are to complete prescreening of applicants by the end of August. Interviews have tentatively been scheduled for final candidates for superintendent of schools Sept. 7 and 8.

In other matters, a contract for concrete repair work at Quincy Elementary School was awarded to Crete Craft Concrete, a subsidiary of locally owned White Cap Ready Mix of Portola, in the amount of $25,071.

There will be a 25 percent rate hike for regular PUSD bus pass holders. Students who qualify for free and reduced lunch also qualify for free and reduced bus transportation.

About 100 students will see their bus pass rates increase. Plumas County students still pay less than the state average, and PUSD will review bus rates annually, as per BP 3250, until rates match the state’s.

Bruce Williams, assistant superintendent, was appointed temporarily as secretary to the governing board, and will hold the position until the superintendent vacancy is filled.

I was at this meeting. The PUSD transportation guy said that it would *actually* effect 300 families and PUSD would gain a whooping $7,500.

The board said this will help to fix the stated $4m deficit...

This is hilarious - y'all don't want the board to pick the superintendent because apparently they don't know what they are doing, but when they hire outside help, everyone flips out anyways. Come on people - why don't you volunteer your time to show up to the meetings to express your input then?

Curious to know how much it will cost to retain ELS for this search. In Davis where I now reside, the cost was around $25,000 for a firm to do a similar search for a new superintendent. I realize Davis District is larger etc., but just interested in knowing.

There is no substitute for the Board Members visiting the candidate's present District and interviewing the teachers, staff and community! Head hunters just want their fee and care not about the future effects on the District eg. district moral and six figure separation agreements.

I have a very simple solution to the search. Go no further then the PUSD District Office!! The PERFECT superintendent is already there. Bruce Williams. He knows the District, its employees, and has the "right stuff". HE CARES!!
