Lake Davis Spring Derby approaches

  It’s that time again for fishers to pull out their rods and reels and head to Lake Davis. The annual Lake Davis Spring Fishing Derby is set to take place June 15. The derby starts at 6 a.m. and lasts until 5 that afternoon.

  The derby was hosted by the Portola Rotary Club in the past, but the Graeagle Plumas Alliance will hold the event this year. Rotary held the annual event for more than 10 years.

  The U.S. Forest Service confirmed Tuesday that a firefighter was killed while fighting a lightning-strike fire in the Modoc National Forest on Monday.

  According to Forest Service Chief Tom Tidwell, 28-year-old smokejumper Luke Sheehy was killed after being struck by a dead tree just before 5 p.m.

 

Forest Service adds night-flying helicopter to suppression efforts

  U.S. Forest Service Chief Tom Tidwell recently announced that the agency will begin night helicopter wildfire suppression operations this season in Southern California.

  “The re-introduction of Forest Service night helicopter firefighting operations in Southern California further establishes the agency’s commitment to protect lives and property in the region,” said Tidwell.

Local residents who have any information regarding the whereabouts of Patrick McCarthy, 45, of Doyle, are asked to call the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office.

McCarthy’s family has filed a missing person’s report with the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office. He is described as a Caucasian male, 6’2” tall, weighing 215 pounds. He has brown, short hair and hazel eyes. He was last seen driving a maroon 2004 extended cab Ford Ranger with California license plate number 82362B1.

 

Sacramento man drowns in Bucks Lake

  A 28-year-old Sacramento man died Saturday afternoon in a drowning accident at Bucks Lake.

  Nathan Randolph Ramirez was pronounced dead at 5:33 p.m., according to the Plumas County sheriff.
