Flanigan-Leavitt Insurance Agency is celebrating five years in business this month by hosting a Quincy Chamber mixer at their office in Quincy tonight (Wed July 9) from 5 to 7 pm. Mike and Valerie Flanigan worked for Murray & Edwards Insurance Agency for eight years before partnering with The Leavitt Group to purchase the well-established 100+ year-old agency. "Our partnership with The Leavitt Group has been very rewarding for these past five years. Our customers benefit from our ability to reach so deep into the insurance marketplace. The Leavitt Group is comprised of over 100 agency affiliates like ours, generating combined premium volumes that put us among the top 10 insurance brokers nationally. As an independent agency, our motto is, and continues to be, that we offer choices to our customers when making insurance-buying decisions," explained Mike.
Mike and Valerie Flanigan are holding an open house and customer appreciation reception celebrating their 5th anniversary as Flanigan-Leavitt Insurance in Quincy. Mark your calendar: It's Wednesday, July 9, from 5-7 p.m. at their Main Street offices. Be sure to stop by, enjoy some refreshments and snacks while seeing the extensive renovations they've made to the 105 year-old former Plumas County Bank building.
This caught my eye recently in our Remember When column on the editorial page: Twenty-five years ago local consumers were upset over gas wars being waged in Plumas County. Prices in 1983 varied from a low of $1.29 per gallon to a whopping high of $1.43 a gallon. Let's do the math from then to now, based on a 200-mile trip, let's say to Reno for shopping. Assume that then your vehicle got 10 miles to the gallon, your tab for gas - at an average rate somewhere between the cheapest and most expensive - would have been about $27. Today, that same trip will cost about $60, assuming you get something in the neighborhood of 15 miles to the gallon. That's just one of countless reasons why it truly pays to support your local businesses and shop here at home!
