Two dogs stricken with salmon poisoning at Lake Davis

Two cases of salmon poisoning in dogs have been confirmed in the last two to three weeks; Beckwourth veterinarian Dr. Martin Schafer treated them.

The disease, traditionally found in uncooked salmon, is a regional thing, found from north of San Francisco to Oregon. Eating or licking raw fish infects dogs.

Forgay Point Road maintenance stirs controversy

The controversy around maintenance work done by the county at Forgay Point Road in Indian Valley came up at a recent Plumas County Planning Commission meeting.

Commissioner Betsy Schramel asked if the road department consulted with the planning department or was aware that a heritage site existed there.

“I don’t know if they’re aware, they didn’t discuss it with us,” senior planner Becky Herrin responded.

 

Whose road is it anyway? Old Forgay Point Road is contested

Old Forgay Point Road, which runs through private ranch lands between Pioneer and Forgay roads, is under contention, and has been for many years.

It’s legally considered a public road, because it was commonly used before the Crescent Grade on Highway 89 was completed.

 

Portola City Council appoints member, amid protests

No more than two people seemed to agree on any one issue at the last meeting of the Portola City Council. The meeting itself, nearly everyone would agree, was contentious and painful.

The special meeting Dec. 2 was wholly devoted to the reorganization of the council: per election results and to fill the seat recently vacated by Bill Kennedy.
