Gordon (Gordy) Clyde Hinschberger, 59, passed away March 24, 2012, at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Eugene, Ore., following open heart surgery.

He is survived by his daughter Kelley Tagudin and son Timothy Hinschberger, sister Valerie Vassaur, son-in-law Chris Tagudin, brother-in-law Richard Vassaur, grandchildren Dustin and Leilani Tagudin, nieces Caitlyn and Kristen Vassaur and nephew Scott Vassaur. He also leaves many aunts, uncles and cousins and several close friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Gordon Hinschberger, and his mother, Edwina Hinschberger, of Roseburg, Ore.

As a longtime resident of Chester he was most remembered for his talent in music and love of the forest where he worked for 20 years as a logger for the Collins Pine Co.

A celebration of his life will be held May 12 at 1 p.m. at the Elks Lodge in Chester located at 164 Main St. In lieu of flowers the family has asked mourners to consider making a donation to the Chester High School music department in his honor. The donation can be brought to the service or given directly to the school.

 

Born Dec. 13, 1924, in San Diego to A.P. “Doc” and Helen Immenschuh, Stan Immenschuh passed away in his home in Chester April 21, 2012, at the age of 87.

He is survived by daughter Laura (Barry) Hendershott; three grandchildren, Brooke Jakob, Bryn (Zach) Riggs and Bret Hendershott; great-grandson Tate Riggs; and niece Judy (Dennis) Broselle.

Stan proudly served in the U.S. Navy attached to the 1st Marine Division during WWII. For 50 years Stan lived a cowboy’s life on ranches, in rodeos, showing horses, riding and training cutting horses as well as training quarter and thoroughbred race horses. Horses were his life’s work.

After retirement in 1999, he lived in Chester near his daughter, grandchildren and niece. Stan cherished his many friends.

Cremation with interment were held at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery at Point Loma. No services are planned at this time. Remembrances may be sent to Sierra Hospice, P.O. Andrew D. Orr, 63, passed away unexpectedly April 28, 2012, in Reno, Nev. Andy was born March 10, 1949, in Oroville to Ted and Marnell Orr. He grew up in Quincy and proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a corpsman. While stationed in California, he met Joan Solina. Andy and Joan married Feb. 17, 1973, and made their home in Reno.

Andy worked at Wells Manufacturing for 17 years, and for the last five years at Dipaco Inc. He and his wife loved the outdoors and spent much of their free time fishing. Together, Andy and Joan also enjoyed traveling to Michigan and Texas to visit their children and grandchildren who are the loves of their lives.

Andy was a lifelong member of the NRA. He loved watching sports and never missed a Nevada Wolfpack football game. Andy was well-known for his horrid jokes and he delighted in tormenting his children and grandchildren with the jokes that only he “got.”

Andy was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Marnell Orr, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Joan; two daughters, Teresa Michalski (Ron) and Anne Perera (Jon); his father- and mother-in-law, Peter and Iris Solina; and six grandchildren: Mason, Delaney and Keaton Michalski and Andrew, Audrey and Austin Perera.

A memorial service was held May 4 at O’Brien-Rogers & Crosby Funeral Home in Reno. Inurnment was held May 5 at Sierra Memorial Gardens in Lemmon Valley.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Nevada Humane Society (nevadahumanesociety.org).

Chester resident Virginia Rosa Ornelas passed this life peacefully, with her loving family at her side, early Monday morning, April 30, 2012, at Seneca District Hospital in Chester.

A native of Portugal, she was born June 7, 1926, on the island of Pico in the Azores to Manual and Maria Silva.

At the tender age of 18 she married George Ornelas in the Azores and to this holy union two sons and a daughter were born.

The family immigrated to the United States in 1969 and soon settled in the California coastal community of Fort Bragg where Virginia worked in the fishing industry. In 2001 she moved to Chester with her family.

Baptized and raised in the Roman Catholic faith, Virginia attended Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church when health permitted. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who always kept her family first.

In passing Virginia leaves her sons, Manuel Ornelas and his wife Maria, of Melbourn, Fla., and Jose Ornelas and his wife Maria, of Lathrop; a daughter, Maria Hawk and her husband Gary, of Chester; the precious jewels of her life, her grandchildren: Denise, Mike, Jean, Aaron, Eric and Stephanie; and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Elia and Maria Rosa, of the Island of Pico in the Azores, Portugal.

She joins in her eternal home her loving husband George, who passed from this life in 1979, and a brother, Mariano.

A time of viewing and visitation took place Wednesday, May 2, followed by recitation of the Holy Rosary at the Fehrman Mortuary Chapel in Chester. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for the repose of Virginia’s soul Thursday, May 3, at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church on the Lake Almanor Peninsula. Interment in the Chester District Cemetery followed.

Melvin Matthew Meadlin, 61, passed away suddenly May 1, 2012, at Renown Hospital in Reno, Nev. His family was at his side.

Melvin was born Sept. 28, 1950, in Fort Bragg to Thelma and Doyce Meadlin. He lived in Fort Bragg until joining the U.S. Air Force in 1970. Melvin married Dixie Cottrell in 1971, while on military leave before returning to South Carolina to complete the remainder of his military service. Melvin and Dixie then returned to Fort Bragg.

Melvin worked for various lumber mills in the Fort Bragg area and served with the Fort Bragg police department. He was also a reservist for the Mendocino County Sheriff Department for 15 years. For the last 16 years of his life, Melvin worked for Sierra Pacific in Quincy.

He is survived by his wife of over 40 years, Dixie; daughter Patricia Oakley, with husband Dan and grandson Tyler, of Lander, Wyo.; son Melvin Meadlin II, with wife Jenny, of California City; mother Thelma; brother Ed, with wife Ann; and many nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, in-laws and friends.

He will be eternally missed and forever in our hearts.

Longtime Chester resident Georgie Bell Helton passed from this life peacefully, with her family at her side, Friday, May 4, 2012, at Banner Lassen Medical Center in Susanville at the age of 84.

Born Aug. 2, 1927, in Isabel, Okla., to Oswood and Nettie (Wood) Nowell, she was raised and educated in Oklahoma.

After Georgie was courted by a handsome young farmer name Johnnie Helton, the couple was united in matrimony in Hugo, Okla., Sept. 29, 1945. This blessed union lasted 66 years and to this union two daughters were born.

In 1952 the family relocated to the northeastern California lumber community of Chester and shortly thereafter Georgie went to work as a clerk at the former Young’s Market in Chester, a career that spanned some 28 years. She retired in 1990 while working for the former Super Saver Market in Chester.

Her farming roots extended to her love of growing vegetables alongside her husband in their garden. She enjoyed the outdoors through fishing and boating on Lake Almanor as well as camping, especially spending time at Black Butte Lake with her family for more than 30 years.

A very loving and positive Christian, Georgie enjoyed listening to gospel music as well as playing guitar alongside her husband, who was a talented fiddle player. They both found pleasure in sharing their love of music with their family.

In passing, Georgie leaves her daughter Judy Hardig and her husband Dwane, of Chester; grandchildren April Ackley and her husband Mike and Troy Helton and his wife Cindy; great-grandchildren Leah, Melissa, Sherill and Carolina; two great-great-grandsons; a brother, Ronnie Nowell and his wife Judy; sisters Helen Abney and her husband J.D. and Delia Bell and her husband Bob; and many nieces and nephews.

She joins her loving husband Johnnie, who passed from this life just last year, and her daughter Betty Helton in their eternal home.

A celebration of Georgie’s life will take place 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, at the Vineyard Christian Fellowship in Chester. Interment will take place alongside her late husband in the Chester District Cemetery.
