Caltrans projects gearing up in Plumas County

  The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and project contractors will begin work along highways 70, 89 and 36 in Plumas County from the Butte County line ending at U.S. 395, Hallelujah Junction in Lassen County.

  Caltrans informs travelers of several areas where they may encounter work this construction season, with up to 15-minute delays expected.

  Project name: Portola and Crescent Mills Pavement Overlay

  Description:Overlay project on Highway 70 from 2.5 miles west of Humbug Creek to 0.3 mile west of Big Grizzly Creek Bridge and on Highway 89 1.5 miles north of Crescent Mills. Delays of up to 15 minutes are expected with maximum lane closure distance of two miles.

  Start date:Mid-June

  End date:August

  Total project miles:seven

 

  Project name: Bridge maintenance (various locations)

  Description: Bridge deck rehabilitation and road reconstruction work will take place at 11 locations: five bridges from Belden to U.S. 395, one on Highway 89 south of Greenville, two on Highway 89 south of Highway 70 and three on 284 north of Highway 70. Minimal delays of five minutes are expected.

  Start date: June

  End date: September

  Total project miles: Various bridge locations

 

  Project name: Highway Advisory Radio (HAR), HAR Flashing Beacon and Closed Circuit TV Installation

  Description: Around Lake Almanor including a small section of Highway 36 through Chester, delays of up to five minutes can be expected.

  Start date: June

  End date: September

  Total project miles: 52 miles around Lake Almanor (various locations)

 

  Project name: Slurry Seal

  Description: Butte/Plumas County line to Highway 89. Pilot cars will be utilized with 15-minute delays expected.

  Start date: June

  End date: July

  Total project miles: 33 miles

 

  Project name: Metal-Beam Guardrail

  Description: In 95 locations along Highway 70, existing guardrail will be replaced and new retaining and structural walls will be installed. The project area is from Grizzly Creek Bridge to 0.1 mile west of the Spanish Creek Bridge. Travelers can expect 24-hour operations with intermittent lane closures and traffic control.

  Start date: Anticipated July 2012

  End date: November 2013

  Total project miles: 35 miles (various locations)

 

  Project name: Spanish Creek Bridge Replacement

  Description: Replacement of the Spanish Creek Bridge is almost complete and an anticipated switchover date from the old bridge to the new one will be the end of June. The switchover will include one-way traffic control. A ribbon cutting ceremony is tentatively planned for mid-July.

  Start date: May 2010

  End date: July 2013

  Total project miles: Bridge area only

 

  Project name: Chester Pavement Restoration

  Description: Pavement is being restored on Highway 36 in Chester from the overflow drainage canal west of Chester to the causeway across Lake Almanor on the east side of Chester. The new pavement section is being replaced with recycled material and will last longer and require less maintenance. Travelers can expect slight delays and limited access to private driveways for up to 20 minutes. Businesses will remain open and accessible during construction.

  Start date: July

  End date: October

  Total project miles: three miles
